Well, it’s a huge load off my mind that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finalized and purchased their nursery for their upcoming baby joys.  Sounds like their L.A. home is now ready to receive the little ones upon their arrival, which is good to know that they will at least spend some time this side of the Big Pond. New York sources detail that they made their purchases from Petit Tresor to the tune of $140,00. I checked the items they listed, and seems there were  no diaper bags listed, just the major big stuff, you know, two cribs, two basinettes, two changing tables, two dressers, two chandeliers, just the basics. However, after shopping diaper bags at this establishment, they look sturdy, and useable, but there is still just something about owning a designer brand diaper bag. It just seems to give that little extra, that says, “we want the best for our new little one, or ones” in this case. I suspect Angelina will choose something elegant, and Brad will choose a “man-bag”. I just don’t know how they are going to carry it all, bags, babies, and the extra toddler they each seem to always have in their arms. But that is the fun of having kiddos, never a dull moment.

I know I just wrote about how to buy a concealed carry handbag, but who knew that the next day I would walk into Fashion Bug: fresh, affordable fashions for plus, misses, juniors and girlsand find the prefect bag! Sorry ladies, I tried to find them online, but they are only available in the store, but if you hurry, they are even on sale!!! Anyway, I was looking for that perfect bag for concealed carry, when I came upon this adorable “swing pack” as the style is known as. It was even in a haute spring plaid design. Ok, now call me crazy, but my wallet fit perfect into it. Remember me telling you to find something that resembled the size of your weapon? My Coach wallet is just the ticket for me. And I can’t for the life of me figure out what the two front magnetic snap pockets on the front are for. No, my phone gets lost in the bottom of them. Don’t smoke, but cig pack won’t fit either. Pens were too long. Comb didn’t fit. Oh, wait, just on chance, I bought the bag, with assurance I could return it if my hunch wasn’t right. BINGO! Two magazines from my 22 cal. fit perfectly!! Now, understand, I also carry my regular handbag, for those theives to grab if need be. When asked why I carry the cute swing pack, I comment, or medical needs stuff….just shuts them up in a hurry. Actually the only other thing that did fit into those cute front pockets was my EpiPen. There are two outside zip pockets, just the right size for lady like weapons, and the inside has 7 credit card holder slots, one zip pocket, one elastic pocket,snap off key ring, external zip pocket and really could be your go to handbag for summer. Hurry before they all sell out! I got mine for 25% off of $28. Will probably sell my shoulder holster at online auction now. This one is too cute!

In reviewing handbags for all occasions, there is one that is commonly forgotten, and that is the handbags for the woman who has a concealed carry weapons permit otherwise known as CCW permit. It is refreshing to have the larger bags in vogue now, however, most of the time there is no specific place to hold the weapon. It is not a good idea to just dump it in with all the other paraphinalia. We all know what happens next. It ends up at the bottom of the bag, just like the favorite lipstick or must have nail file. It dissappears in the abyss of the forgotten junk. I won’t go into the pros or cons of whether or not to carry concealed on person or in a handbag. My preference is to have it ready at all times, meaning on the person. After all, when that unlucky thief grabs my purse, do I want him to have my weapon with it? Never!
Several handbag styles, however, do have some separate pockets, which would do the trick. In choosing a handbag to use for concealed carry, look for large inside separate pockets, exterior zippered pockets, or be certain it is large enough to hold a separate pouch or makeup bag specifically for your weapon. And don’t forget, the bigger the bag, the easier it is to fill it. I’ve heard the going rate in lbs. for ladies handbags is tipping the scale at 25-30 lbs. Adding another hefty side kick, tends to create more neck and shoulder problems.
Personally, I like the idea of two sizes for concealed carry, a larger day use, and a smaller one for the evening bag, as there are very few places to carry in an evening dress.

To shop for a concealed carry handbag, find something that is about the size or a bit larger than your handgun. I found my Coach Checkbook wallet was perferct size and shape. Then use this as an example as you shop for that perfect concealed carry handbag. I also go to the store clerk and tell her what I am looking for. They are more apt to help you and allow you to stuff your wallet, take out packing tissue etc. without looking like you are shoplifting.  There are many designs to choose from so choose wisely.

Ok, it’s not a real handbag, but last week or so, over on www.thepurseblog.com she directed us over to www.hermes.com/us where they have a darling paper cut-out of a handbag. You can choose one of their styles, or if you are creative, design and color your own. A short hour later, I now have this adorable, personalize cardboard handbag. It reminded me of the design class I took in college where we created all sorts of shapes in three dimensions. It makes me wonder if this is how they break down the design of a handbag into its “construction parts”. I also make my own designer gift bags out of gift wrap which is fun to do. I especially enjoy making tiny ones for small treasures.

I was sitting in class the other day and love to watch the antics of teenagers. I have been a professional high school substitute teacher for over 18 years. It all started when my kids started high school and I being a “helicopter mom” began to panic at the thought of not having an inside contact in my kids lives during the day. Therefore, I got papered, and started subbing in the high school. It was actually fun to meet ALL their friends and get to know them on another level. Anyway, last week, being spring around here, lots of the girls had new handbags. They were stylish, bright, and would be on my want list. Throughout the year I have noticed their handbags getting bigger. Not because it’s the style, but because it was easier to have your purse on your desk, with phone on, texting friends as you pretend to be looking for a pencil. I solved that problem early on, by making them all put their purses on the floor. Some even have internet on their phones, so why all the big hassle about school and the internet. The boys have a tendency to use their hoody pockets, but with the warm days ahead, that will be the end of that too. I hear next year the penalty for using phones in school will be toughter. I’ll miss them this summer, it was so fun to interact with them. And I won’t know be able to keep up on the latest styles. Oh, well, I’ll see them at the mall on the weekends. Fun!

Forget the vernal equinox, the true passage of spring is not the arrival of seed catalogs, but truely must be the arrival of the Big Three in Designer Bibles.Yes, Fashion Week is history and now the hot magazines are scorching our hands as we read. Just to peruse each page is a delicious experience.  Look for upcoming features, and where to get them in future tappings here.  The look is really starting to go retro, and pecking away on my laptop makes me feel like I violate the era.  It would be more appropriate to be clicking away on a vintage Underwood, such that Hemmingway used. Large is still the look for daytime, but you can still pop that devine little clutch inside for when you step from the office to the evening events.

Just too Maah-velous, Dah-ling!
